The Bluffwalk

The Bluffwalk is a series of walkways, overlooks, trails and staircases connecting several downtown streets and boasting eclectic dining experiences and event spaces.  This section of downtown has become a truly unique area offering museums, bike rentals, yoga, art, theater and riverfront outdoor entertainment.

The Blue Ridge

Experience breathtaking views and adventure as you drive, hike or ride along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Touted as "America's Favorite Drive," it is one the most visited sections of the National Park System offering gorgeous scenery from its byway overlooks. There are several campgrounds, picnic areas and trails to enjoy.  Make it a day on the Parkway! 

Liberty Flames Football

Enjoy the excitement of an NCAA Division 1 FBS football game!  The Liberty Flames is the college football program representing Liberty University competing with the largest and most compet- itive schools in the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Join the excitement as they battle their way to a Bowl game!  If football is not your thing, Liberty University also has 20 NCAA Division 1 athletic teams and 40 Club Sports teams, so you can always take in some baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, track & field, swimming & diving, lacrosse or rowing.

Amazement Square

Amazement Square is an award-winning, multidisciplinary children's museum located in historic downtown Lynchburg.  The museum offers four floors of hands-on, interactive exhibits designed to make learning fun. 

Riverwalk Trail

The Riverwalk Trail is the ultimate urban/scenic nature walk.  From the downtown entry, this multi-use trail crosses onto Percival's Island, a beautiful natural area with paved and earthen trails crisscrossing its length.  On Percival's Island, you'll find access to river frontage to explore at the water's edge or dip your toes into the James River.  Adjacent to the trail head entrance there is a skate park, and just across the river is a kayak launch.   

The Maier Museum of Art 

The Maier Museum of Art at Randolph College houses an outstanding collection. The Museum’s strengths lie in American Impressionism and in early 20th-century Realism. Artists represented include Ben Shahn, Arthur B. Davies, John Sloan, Georgia O’Keeffe, Robert Rauschenberg, and James McNeill Whistler.

Point of Honor 

Point of Honor is an historic home, now a city museum that housed several prominent Lynchburg families during the city's formative years.  It is an unusual example of the Federal style architecture and is remarkably sophisticated for the early 19th period.  The property has commanding views of the city and the James River. 

Blackwater Creek Trail

This popular paved city trail is built along an abandoned railway bed and perfect for jogging, walking or biking.  In the heart of the city, yet secluded, the trail is well shaded and offers lush open fields and fishing access.  Enjoy the unique the views and attributes of the Blackwater Creek trail including the picturesque Hollins Mill Dam and the Hollins Mill Tunnel.

The National D-Day Memorial

During World War II, Bedford, VA, just outside of Lynchburg, suffered the highest per capita D-Day losses in the nation.  There is no better place than the hometown of the Boys of Bedford for this exceptional WW2 memorial honoring the Allied forces who participated in the invasion of Normandy.  At the D-Day memorial you will gain insight about the events that shaped our nation and our world.
